Track Your Freelance Hours
Freelance time is easy to lose track of — a session here, a call there, and at the end of the month you're reconstructing what you actually worked. Timely keeps it simple: start the clock when you begin, stop it when you're done, and label the session so you know what it was.
Track the work as you do it
- Tap Start Shift when you begin a session and End Shift when you stop.
- Name and tag each session with the client or project so your history stays readable.
- Set a different hourly rate on an individual session with Elite when clients pay differently.
- Log a session you forgot by adding it manually with custom start and end times.
When it's time to invoice
- Export your tracked time with Elite as a formatted report you can save or send
- On the Mac app, export your shifts as a CSV file to drop into a spreadsheet
- Review your totals by period — Today and This Week free, Month and Year with Elite
- Log project expenses with receipt photos (Elite) so costs don't get forgotten
What to know before you download
- Timely does not have separate client profiles — it's one rate profile plus tags.
- There is no billable vs. non-billable flag; use a tag if you need that distinction.
- Timely does not generate invoices or take payments — pair it with your invoicing tool.
- There is no PDF export, and no per-client revenue dashboard.
Frequently asked questions
Can I track multiple clients?
Not as separate client profiles. Timely tracks a single rate profile — name and tag each session with the client so your history is readable, and use Elite's per-shift rate when a client pays differently.
Does it generate invoices?
No. Timely exports your tracked time (Elite) as a formatted report, or as CSV from the Mac app. For actual invoicing and payment links, use your invoicing tool of choice.
Can I split billable and non-billable hours?
There's no dedicated billable flag. Most people tag non-billable sessions so they can tell them apart in their history.
Is there a desktop version?
There's a Timely app for Mac, but be aware it keeps its own separate data — the Mac app and the iPhone app do not sync with each other today. A web version is in development.
What happens if I work on two projects at once?
Timely tracks one session at a time. Most people track sequentially, or add the second session manually afterward.
